From Panic to Peace

Spiritual companions reflect on life, death, faith, suffering, relationships and community in the light of Patricia Ng's experience with cancer and her practice of Christian Meditation.

Patricia Ng started the first Christian meditation group in Singapore in 1988. Diagnosed with advanced stage stomach cancer in July 2003, she had undergone surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment. In May 2004, she started a meditation group at a local hospital for cancer patients, case-givers and healthcare workers. With her husband, Peter, she co-ordinated the activities of the Singapore Christian meditation community.

Laurence Freeman is a Benedictine monk of the monastery of Christ the King, Cockfosters, London. As spiritual director of the community for christian Meditation, he leads retreats and seminars and nurtures inter-faith friendship. His books include Light Within, The Selfless Self, A Short Span of Days and Jesus the Teacher Within. He was caregiver to his teacher John Main OSB, who died of cancer in 1982.

Patricia Ng died February 14, 2005, 5 months after completing FROM PANIC TO PEACE. She lived a joyful last phase and lived to see the birth of her two grandchildren.
